Oh boy it's a big week for fashion.
It's a big week for Marks & Spencer, it's a big week for Alexa Chung and it's a big week for my credit card.
For this very Wednesday marks the launch of Archive by Alexa the eagerly anticipated fashion range curated by Her Style Highness, Queen Alexa of Chung. These are the pieces Alexa reinvented after delving through the Marks & Sparks archives and picking out her fave styles from a century's worth of classic clobber.
So what am I doing writing about a fashion range on an interiors blog? Two reasons actually:
1) It's the night before the launch and I'm passing the time until I can fill my on-line shopping cart.
2) I'm raising a glass to that Polish refugee who started up a little market stall, all those years ago (132 yrs ago on my home turf of Leeds since you ask) that turned into Britain's best loved chainstore, M&S.
Big up M&S. A* to you. In fact AA* because with you we get a lot, even if we haven't got a lot, if you get my drift?
And I'm not just talking training bras. See, it occurred to me that it's not just in fashion that M&S have delivered some bangers over the years. They've done a very decent job of delivering some pretty stylish interior staples too.
So today, to celebrate one of the most talked about design collaborations of the year, I thought I'd do my own 'lil fashion edit and pick out some examples of classic M&S quality & value for money to have in your home. That way, when the Alexa stuff sells out before you've had your Weetabix, you can console yourself with housey shopping instead.
Here's my pick of items from the current Marks and Spencer home range that should be snapped up before they are confined to the hallowed M&S archives. Case in point is this example of most excellent house candy that somehow slipped through my net:
