The Candy Files - Slogan or Slo-gone?

What's hot, what's not and what's what at my place. This week:

Let's be frank, overtly smug messaging on homewares can grate a little, but overall, I'm a fan.

In fact, my latest attempt to wear my heart on my cushion has transformed my very grown up sofa situ into something a little more light hearted.

"Good Vibes" -  So chilled, so roll-with-it, so Urban Outfitters as it happens; a brand which I've never known to be anything other than thoroughly on-trend. So it stunned me slightly to find that this month Elle Decoration declared the war with words officially over via its style barometer.

Good Vibes are not the only vibes I've been flaunting around my gaff either. I've also been keen to remind my beloved fellow housemates to:

Love...

Honour...

and Obey...

So does Elle Decoration spell silence for the sofas? Should we wave bye-bye to wisdom on our walls? And heaven forbid no more subliminal notes in neon? I for one will fight for freedom of interior speech with my last breath. And maybe with one last cushion:

Good Mood T Shirt Zadig et Voltaire

This week I did my first #OOTD on Instagram and this t-shirt is to blame. Yep, not content with sharing my considered opinion in blog form, here I am preaching to the world via the bourgeoise medium of designer t-shirt. So troll me! You're right after all, it's only one snooty step away from declaring the end of the world is nigh via a sandwich board outside HSBC, but y'know... all in the name of fashion...

Don't get me wrong, I totally would if I could. Fact is, the dimples may detract from the sentiment and I hate for a pertinent message to um, sag. Don't you?

Keep spreading the word people. Whatever medium you choose, say it loud, say it proud and (for max respect), say it stylishly. Please share this post if you too are a bit gobby in your gaff.

I woke up like this - The bang tidy, untidy bed update you need to nail

Hey, it's Humpday and we're all busy racing to get to the end of the week, so today I've got a timesaver for you.

Don't bother making the bed.

Seriously, it might upset your mum, but believe me it's far more "magazine" to leave your bed a bit dishelved these days. It's also a total winner because it gives you an extra 5 minutes actually in it.

I'm particularly loving this pretty unkept situation and wondering how I can pull it off ... and then pull it over me for the whole entire winter.

Here's what I found. You can keep your bedding all plain and white (fresh white sheets don't you just love 'em?) but you need to cover all that cleanliness up with a sweet as sugar bed throw and a couple of stylish cushions, okay?

As you know, I'm OBSESSED with pink *officially no longer a girls' colour btw* and the silky quilted throw above is giving me serious come to bed eyes. Whilst I haven't yet come across this exact one, I've found some similar options that would pretty much do the job.

Then for the cushions. Big squishy ones if poss. I'm mad for this sulphur yellow colour which looks amazing with baby pink and also makes the whole look nicely autumnal. Never a bad thing.

And that's it. Looks as good first thing in the morning as it does all done up. Isn't that worth lusting after on a wet Wednesday?

What do you think? Can you leave your bed messy on a morning or is that concept simply messing with your OCD? Let me know in the comments section.

Happy half week all, how are you getting over the hump?

House of Hacks - The art of beautiful cheating

There are some beautiful cheats out there. Ref Maria Sharapova.

Cheating is wrong. Of course it's wrong, but weellllllll, tennis would be ugly without Maria, so I have found it in my heart to forgive her. Just like I know you will forgive me for my recent (but rather beautiful) cheating spate too.

So it's time to come clean.

I love House of Hackney. In fact I have an unhealthy obsession with the brand. I love its modern vintage vibe, its unapologetic maximalism and I adore its rock star credentials.

And yet (guilt face) I've been reduced to cheating in order to achieve the look.

But that's not all. Unable to land this dreamy (and yes, rock-star expensive) House of Hackney London stripe Mortello chair to the tune of £2,495 ...

... I bought some £6 per metre Ikea copycat fabric and made my own accent chair instead. (Exhibit B below and top).

But you know what? Throughout this sordid designer hacking ordeal, I have experienced none of the shame associated with real life cheating. In fact. I'm actually quite proud of myself. You will be pleased to know that interior cheating, done well, feels really quite good.

What's more, it allows me more cash to splash on gorgeous actual House of Hackney accessories that:

a) I would not otherwise be able to afford and

b) Will fool everyone into believing that the fake stuff might actually be designer anyway (because a House of Hackney soap dispenser says a lot about your standards if you know what I mean.)

Clean hands and clean conscience. Who'd have thought cheating could be so rewarding?
